Director of First Impressions

Located in Portland, Oregon, HLS seeks a Director of First Impressions responsible for overseeing the front office while assisting our team in the process of supporting and servicing our clients and manufacturers we represent. As a trusted resource, you will excel in providing renowned customer service and staff support, be detail oriented and work independently.

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Order Office Supplies
  • Create quotes for stock orders
  • Answer phones and direct calls
  • Order catering for training and special events
  • Confirm and Proof purchase orders to customers
  • Process mail and outgoing shipments through FedEx and UPS
  • Communicate with customers regarding pricing discrepancies on purchase orders
  • Keep up to date on calendar events – meetings, vacations, factory visits, and so on
  • Be the professional, accommodating first line of communication to all who enter and leave the office

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Associate (AA) or University degree (B.A. or B.S.) in business, Or, 2 years of commensurate work experience in an office environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in addition to outstanding organizational, problem-solving and decision-making aptitude.
  • Computer proficiency using MSN Office Suite and Adobe or Blue Beam.
  • Knowledge of lighting systems and/or construction process a plus.
  • May need to lift-up to 40 lbs.

Lighting Sales Consultant

Located in Portland, Oregon, Harry L. Stearns, Inc. (HLS) seeks a Lighting Sales Consultant focused on the education and promotion of manufacture lines we represent. You will be a technical resource, excel in providing renowned customer service, be detailed oriented and work independently.  Using your creativity and people skills; you will work along-side our clients and assist them in navigating the complexities of intelligent lighting systems.

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Build and maintain relationships with specifiers.
  • Maintain product knowledge and industry relationships.
  • Proactively drive sales and brand awareness of Harry L. Stearns, Inc.
  • Assist with design layouts and proposals to facilitate the sales process.
  • Work closely with clients to educate and promote manufacturer product lines.
  • Prepare and present lighting and related topics for internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal members of our team to meet the needs and objectives of the company.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Harry L. Stearns, Inc. (HLS) seeks a Lighting Quotes Consultant (LQC) focused on quoting lighting material from plans and specifications on construction projects based on manufacture lines we represent. As a technical resource, you will develop comprehensive quotes for commercial, industrial, residential, multi-family and design-build projects based on specifications or conceptual information. Using your creativity and people skills, you will work within an experienced team navigating the complexities of intelligent lighting systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide project quotes to distribution.
  • Provide technical lighting expertise to customers.
  • Partner with distribution to successfully win projects.
  • Analyze architectural and electrical drawings, specifications and related documents.
  • Monitor projects to determine patterns of success or failure.
  • Make independent pricing decisions that determine project profitability and success.
  • Must be detail oriented, work independently and collaborate with teams as necessary.
  • Must adapt to different stages when moving from one project to another.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Associate (AA) or University degree (B.A. or B.S.) in business, engineering, drafting, theatrical lighting, etc., Or, 2+ years of commensurate work experience in lighting quotations or controls.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in addition to outstanding organizational, problem-solving and decision-making aptitude.
  • Computer proficiency using MSN Office Suite and Adobe or Blue Beam.
  • Networked lighting products and system knowledge a plus.
  • Construction industry estimation experience a plus.
  • Preferred experience in quoting the designed solution and ensuring products and services are properly budgeted.

Lighting Controls Application/Design Engineer

Located in Portland, Oregon, Harry L. Stearns, Inc. (“HLS”) seeks a Lighting Controls Application/Design Engineer tasked with supporting Sales and Service teams in closing opportunities and delivering lighting control systems for retrofit and new construction of commercial buildings. The role is multifaceted with focus on application/solution engineering, business development, and project management.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Analyze electrical drawings, understanding lighting layout, controls intent, and fixture schedule.
  • Communicate effectively between multiple departments and the client to create custom product quotes and layouts.
  • Partner with distribution to successfully win projects.
  • Review and edit potential quotes from team members.
  • Provide additional detailed product information as needed.
  • Maintain an organized folder structure of design documents.
  • Monitor projects to determine patterns of success or failure.
  • As a trusted resource, provide technical lighting expertise to clients.
  • Must adapt to different stages when moving from one project to another.
  • Make independent pricing decisions that determine project profitability and success.
  • Must be detail oriented, work independently and collaborate with teams as necessary.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Associate (AA) or University degree (B.A. or B.S.) in electrical engineering, theatrical lighting, etc. Or, 2+ years of commensurate work experience in the Architecture, Interior Design, or Lighting industries.
  • Experience in quoting the designed solution and ensuring products and services are properly budgeted.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in addition to outstanding organizational, problem-solving and decision-making aptitude.
  • Computer proficiency using MSN Office Suite and Adobe or Blue Beam. Experience with AutoCAD or Visual Controls a strong plus.
  • Strong networked lighting control products and system knowledge a plus.
